Опустила все точки, иначе много знаков

Sabina Bakhishevaadded a comment 6 years ago

Обстоятельство места здесь совершенно необязательно! Это что называется up to you! Ситуация сама подсказывает,куда переехали Это не ошибка

⦿ ULYadded a comment 6 years ago

Sabina, it’s more natural to have MOVED HERE or MOVED THERE, depending on the direction of the move.

⦿ ULYadded a comment 6 years ago

Also, BAKING a cake.

Sabina Bakhishevaadded a comment 6 years ago

Uly, it's the same! My American friend sitting next to me is sure, too. So I sacrifed it to save some room for the other sentences cause there are limits

⦿ ULYadded a comment 6 years ago

Sabina, sorry, I don’t agree with your American friend! Although you CAN say “making a cake,” I think the object of this site is to learn/teach GOOD English, not POSSIBLE English, so if you and your friend don’t mind, I’ll continue to offer BEST options for all to learn: https://books.google.com/ngrams/graph?content=Making+a+cake%2C+baking+a+cake&year_start=1800&year_end=2000&corpus=15&smoothing=3&share=&direct_url=t1%3B%2CMaking%20a%20cake%3B%2Cc0%3B.t1%3B%2Cbaking%20a%20cake%3B%2Cc0

...and MOVED HERE/THERE.

Sabina, I’ve noticed that my suggestions and corrections don’t sit well with you. Unfortunately, I’m the only native speaker here, and language industry professional, who is willing to monitor the level of English being presented and offer guidance on correct usage, grammar and vocabulary. So I will continue to comment on ALL posts, I just won’t direct my comments at you personally. It’s a shame you’re so resistant to my help because your English is truly amazing. Good luck to you!

Sabina Bakhishevaadded a comment 6 years ago

The object of this site is to learn all possible English! Grammar books English and every day English. It's when you prefer saying making cakes

⦿ ULYadded a comment 6 years ago

Absolutely! Good luck to you.

Everyone else, please refer to my Ngram above and note that “making a cake” is grammatical, but unidiomatic. Optimally, we say “baking a cake.”

Sabina Bakhishevaadded a comment 6 years ago

Dear Uly, I truly appreciate your help and your impeccable knowledge! You helped me many times! But in a language there can't be best options! I am a linguist and I am stating that as a linguist ! All the options are the best if they are in the usage! Are you native or bilingual? Please correct me and all the English language fans, but let me sometimes disagree with you if I consider it fair! By the way, I can say consider it fair or consider it to be fair! We can't say which one is the best option, can we? See what I'm getting at? Something sounds more natural but something sounds more relevant.

Sabina Bakhishevaadded a comment 6 years ago

All my American friends keep saying make dinner make coffee make tea make cupcakes! Are they wrong? A Language is changing and alive! And if you want sound natural you won't speak in a Shakespeare-like style!

Sabina Bakhishevaadded a comment 6 years ago

In many grammar books linguists emphise that it's more common to say have worked since/for...

Sabina Bakhishevaadded a comment 6 years ago

All I see is that you feel offended and angry. Sorry I didn't mean to cut to the quick or test you, especially to compete with you! But I can disagree sometimes

⦿ ULYadded a comment 6 years ago

Dearest Sabina, (1) I’m not angry; (2) You couldn’t possibly test me, let alone compete with me; (3) Dictionaries and grammars give all kinds of options, but don’t effectively explain how and when or if not to use them - that’s where I come in; (4) You MAKE all kinds of other foods, but you BAKE cakes (See Ngram above - you can’t argue with statistics); (5) I’m the one who keeps people on here from sounding Shakespearean; (6) If someone wrote “consider it fair” or “consider it to be fair,” I would have no comment because they’re both valid; (7) When you write things like “Uly, it’s the same!” (exclamation mark!), you’re effectively trying to teach me or correct me, instead of listening and learning. (Again, refer to the Ngram above). I’m here to help those who are willing to learn, I don’t need to be taught. So yes, you’re free to defend any variant you want to post, and I in my turn will continue to orient my friends here as to the BEST variant to learn.

Sabina Bakhishevaadded a comment 6 years ago

I keep saying that over and over again:bake is classic, make is modern and relevant, something used in real speech, something conversational. You'll never bring me over to your point of view in this particular case.

This is one of the most successful bloggers! Check how many times she uses "make". Look at the title.

Sabina Bakhishevaadded a comment 6 years ago

Besides that... I'm looking at your last post! So many letters and words. "I'm the one" etc. 🤦Omg! Are you serious? You're so insecure, young man. I'm sorry about that! I'm leaving this pointless squabble. Period!

⦿ ULYadded a comment 6 years ago

You keep trying to teach me - MAKE is not modern; there have always been certain people who say MAKE A CAKE when in fact they should say BAKE. I’m just giving my friends the best option, I’m not denying that some people say MAKE. The person in the video uses MAKE because they’re talking about cupcakes, not cakes. AGAIN, look at the Ngram: https://books.google.com/ngrams/graph?content=make+cupcakes%2Cbake+a+cake%2Cmake+a+cake%2C+bake+cupcakes&year_start=1800&year_end=2000&corpus=15&smoothing=3&share=&direct_url=t1%3B%2Cmake%20cupcakes%3B%2Cc0%3B.t1%3B%2Cbake%20a%20cake%3B%2Cc0%3B.t1%3B%2Cmake%20a%20cake%3B%2Cc0%3B.t1%3B%2Cbake%20cupcakes%3B%2Cc0
