Tatiana Gerasimenkoadded a comment 7 years ago

To SWASHBUCKLE means to act like pirates - like when children dress up like pirates and play with cardboard swords. Somewhere in the original text there must have been a reference to pirates.

It's hard to translate.

Swashbuckle doesn’t have anything to do with bars. You can do it on the boat, at a party, at your house, in a university dorm. It just means to act like pirates, vikings, hussars, drink, yell, carouse and carry on like savages.

Dana -added a comment 7 years ago

To me пиратствовать is to practice piracy at sea, not having a booze.
