This implies that the speaker is either hiding out somewhere, or new to a city. In either case, he doesn't dare go beyond his immediate surroundings, except in little spurts when he musters enough courage, and, according to the context, he did this a few times.

I may not understand the Russian fully, but I don't think either one of you effectively rendered this scenario in your respective translations.
I've thought "to venture" is nearly the same as to take risks.
It can be, but it also implies moving into unfamiliar territory.
Сделать следующий шаг - isn't it correct?
No ma’am. Imagine somebody who just moved to Moscow. They don’t know their way around, and they’re afraid to get lost. So every day they walk around a little bit by their house, and every day they go a little further out. In other words, they “venture a little bit farther” every day.
да, по контексу там про новый город
In another example, imagine someone who escaped from prison and is hiding in the woods. He’s trying to make his way home, but only moves at night under cover of darkness. Every night, when the sun goes down, he “ventures a little farther.” It’s about movement.
Roman 😉
Понятно, спасибо)
Да не за что))
:)
Uly, if I got that right it's FURTHER, AHEAD or others that make us think it's not about taking risks in general, but about proceeding somewhere despite the risk of possible dangers.
As far as I understand, as an intransitive verb the verb "venture" has a meaning of "proceed":
Elena, look at the examples at the bottom of the page. VENTURE means to go somewhere with some trepidation, to muster the courage to go into the unknown. Roman explained the context - it's someone in a new city. Every day he dares to go a little farther from home. So yes, it means to proceed, but to proceed with caution, courage, trepidation.
Figuratively, it also implies movement with trepidation. Someone with no experience in the stock market can VENTURE into investments a little at a time, just risking what he can afford to lose until he learns the ropes.
Uly, got it. Thank you! ;) In terms of your interpretation, I'd say продвигался немного дальше.
Ок 👌🏼
Подальше посылают обычно. 😁
Thank you 👍
My pleasure 😉
