Jane: IN (time) can only be used in the present to refer to the future. In the past, you use AFTER (time) or (time) LATER.

A couple of days later, this man wrote me with a rather tempting proposition - he offered to sell me his professional camera, in excellent condition, at a very low price. I absentmindedly agreed and wired him the money forthwith.
